2005 - October 20th - Thursday

Telephone Conversation: Kathy phoned JH in evening; she wanted to find out ‘more about me’.  She asked me what my plans were for my visit to Greenwich on Sunday, 13 November 2005; she and Ralph wanted to take me out for a meal; JH explained that she would be staying at Maidenhead and travelling to Trinity School of Music for the Finals of the Solo Recorder Player Competition which was booked to take place from 1.00pm to 5.00pm; JH had also arranged to call on Doreen Hipsey to collect the copies of the Family Tree which Doreen had taken away from the family picnic held on 31 July 2005; JH would probably call into Doreen’s after the Performance; as well as not having time to have a meal, JH explained that she preferred not to sit in a posh restaurant – to which Kathy said the meal would probably be eaten in a Pub!  This lead-on JH to state that she had made a decision not to drink alcohol after having the experience of drinking cider on an empty stomach, when visiting her school friend Anne Dunk; Kathy reported that she did have her gin and tonic!

Kathy asked if JH would travel to Cyprus on her own – to which JH said she would not: after overcoming the misunderstanding that JH could visit the Skinners’ Apartment in Cyprus whilst they were there, it was pointed out that if I went with Anne – whom I mentioned had her daughter’s family over there (which I am sure I had mentioned before) – that we would need to share a bed!  JH talked about possibly eventually reaching Zimbabwe to visit Abe, the fostered Hippo!  Kathy made a note of this, JH thinks.  JH did express the idea of visiting the Skinners at home, but Kathy intimated that she likes to relax ‘in private’ (JH’s words) in her own home.   Action: take some info about Turgwe Hippo Haven to show Kathy when the opportunity arises; perhaps JH could visit Kathy at her Dialysis Unit?

2005 - October 21st - Friday

Before going to Derriford for WRVS duties, JH phoned Kathy, however, Kathy was having dialysis in the morning on this occasion so JH spoke to Ralph.  JH confirmed that Kathy’s Dialysis Unit was at: Southend Hospital NHS Trust, Prittlewell Chase, Westcliff-on-Sea Essex SSO ORY.  JH wondered if she could communicate with Maggie Farrell by email; in any event, Ralph provided the telephone numbers.

JH popped into the PALS Office and spoke to Sarah Mulhall, the PALS Officer ‘on duty’: JH explained situation, and asked Sarah to reassure Liz Herman that JH is fine!

Society of Recorder Players

The SRP brings together recorder players of all ages all over the UK.

Most of the day-to-day activities take place in branches of which we have over 50 across the British Isles: they meet monthly (or in some cases more often) for playing sessions, and these are an excellent opportunity to get together with fellow players and learn about the recorder, its music, opportunities to play in small groups, courses, etc.

Most branches are conducted by a Musical Director or by conductors from within the branch, but also have well-known visiting conductors at some of their meetings.

Many branches organise concerts and other activities in their local community.

Turgwe Hippo Trust

The Turgwe Hippo Trust is a Zimbabwe based Hippo conservation, non- profit organization. By adopting one of the Turgwe Hippos you will help us to protect their lives and improve the habitat in which they live. Adopting a Turgwe Hippo allows us to save the Hippos from drought related scenarios, as well as keep these endangered Lowveld Hippos alive. Saving Hippos helps us to protect other wild animals in the area as well. Our site “Save The Hippos” is the first web site for the protection of wild African Hippos in their natural habitat.
