2005 - October 7th - Friday

JH rang Lyn Headon, appointments Clerk and long-time colleague, in the Renal Unit at Derriford Hospital and asked her to suss out the appropriate person to speak to. JH told Lyn that JH was particularly concerned that she would be too old to donate a kidney after her 65th birthday on 27 January 2006. Subsequently, Sara Stacey, the Live Donor Transplant Co-ordinator left a message on JH’s phone saying - when around and about next week - for JH to make contact and/or she herself would persevere to contact JH.

On Friday evening Kathy phoned JH: apparently JH’s blood group was of far more importance than her age! JH gave Kathy her blood group (which JH read off her Blood Donor Card), ie, O RH positive. JH reassured Kathy that she had not changed her mind!1  Kathy said she was eager to tell her brother; her brother (presumably Edwin b1936, ie, not yet 70) had not offered her a kidney.

1During JH's visit to Chez Skinner in May 2008, she was told that Kathy had walked round the house saying 'Does she really mean it!' . . . until Ralph said 'For goodness sake, ring Jeanette and ask her!'  So Kathy rang JH and asked, in an uncharacteristically tentative voice . . . 'Are you all right?'  JH is of the opinion that the risks of . . . just living . . . cannot be avoided.
