2006 - July 21st - Friday

JH phoned her ‘musical’ friend Rose Douglas in view of the fact that Rose was attending Joan Hooppell’s Playing Day on the following day and so JH – who was going to play music in the opposite direction in Playing Place – would not see Rose.  JH was not sure whether she had told Rozee about the Donation; when told Rozee thought that was ‘ over and above the call of duty!’.

JH phoned Edwin from Canada, who was staying at his sister’s house in Bracknell: he had received the email from Kathy about JH not attending the Althorne Reunion – this weekend – and had left his sister’s phone number on JH’s Call Minder yesterday.  We exchanged the usual greetings; Edwin and Sheila are both well; they were only staying about 10 days in England this time and so, as they were returning home on Wednesday Next, JH would not see them at the Greenwich picnic; there was mention of the (slightly) impending donation.

2006 - July 26th - Wednesday

JH was rung up by Ralph who said that he would bring JH back to Plymouth after the operation.  JH explained that, although she was really delighted at this idea, she really could not travel all that way in a car as she would suffer from travel sickness; JH also explained that she had already enlisted Mary Andrews’s help as an escort back to Plymouth on the train, and that Mary had accommodation in Stanmore where she could stay prior to acting as escort.  Also JH mentioned Hazel Barwise as being a school friend, and who would most certainly help JH in the postoperative period – unless she was busy with her own family commitments; furthermore JH had another nursing friend Angela Tilly who lives in the Ashdown Forest and would no doubt rally round if needed.

JH received a phone call from Anne Dunk who was in great distress; she had just packed up her car to come to the Greenwich picnic, and arranged to visit various relatives in that part of London, but she had had to arrange for her daughters to be at home whilst she was away because Bill is so unwell; the Doctors had said it was a kidney problem but Anne is not convinced; Bill seems to wonder around the house and then lie down on a bed any time of the day and just fall asleep, and he is in a lot of pain.

Joanne was going to Dad Sit during the week and - as Joanne works during the weekend - Virginia, Joanne's younger sister was going to come down to Winlaton to Dad Sit then; however Anne had just received a phone call from Virginia to say that V’s car had broken down when she was on her way and she had to be towed back home.

JH phoned Hazel Barwise to explain to her about Anne’s distress; JH also told Hazel that JH was planning to donate a kidney; Hazel told JH that this was the second time she had heard about someone donating a kidney recently, apparently a local friend is to be given one by her daughter (who no doubt is considerably younger than JH!).  JH also asked about the arrival of the new grandchild who is now 5/12 old, called Christopher, and at present in New Zealand visiting the other grandparents.

Hazel will be away in September at the beginning of the week when the Skinners will be staying in North Devon - commencing 16 September 2006 - and Hazel has a number of family affairs going on as well; JH had suggested to Ralph and Kathy that perhaps we could all meet together over a pub meal: in any event this would not be possible.  Hazel did say that she would be happy for JH to stay at Stonyland any time, even if no-one would be there - but no definite arrangements were made; also Hazel and Tom are away for three months at the beginning of 2007 so Hazel will not be able to assist in any way, if the operations go ahead in March 2007: the Barwise’s trip is the trip to Australia which was postponed from the beginning of 2006, because of the imminent arrival of a new grandchild.
