2006 - July 30th - Sunday FAMILY PICNIC AT GREENWICH

JH just missed a train from Maidenhead so did not arrive at Paddington until gone 12.00md – the train being late as well.  JH had a meal in the pub upstairs in Paddington and arrived at the picnic +/- 3.00pm.  Kathy was very well but Ralph seemed very tired; Pat, Kathy’s sister-in-law, expressed concern about Ralph who is working but, after laying a floor recently, could hardly stand up and walk.  Kathy fed JH with low-fat yoghurts (no cakes) which were very welcome in the still hot and humid weather.  Pat gave JH her email Address.  JH bid farewell, and then went to the performance in the Observatory Garden of Anthony and Cleopatra al fresco (commenced 6.30pm) which was most enjoyable.  JH was somewhat miffed to find that, although the public conveniences had been open in the interval, they were shut at the end of the performance at 9.00pm even though the Park did not shut until 9.30pm.  JH popped into the Coffee Shop where the Staff were quite happy for JH to use their facilities – the same Coffee Bar where Angela and JH had had a cup of coffee when we came to the SRP/Moeck Competition finals last November.  JH just missed a ‘surface’ train but chatted to a Turkish student, waiting on the platform, about all things English.

2006 - August 3rd - Thursday

At some point, JH called in to see Sara Stacey to tell Sara that JH’s blood pressure had been high, when JH went to see Dr Thuraisingham in London, and that subsequently JH had spoken to Dr Denton on the phone who advised JH to get her B/P checked – it was normal; JH was not sure what will happen next; no doubt Dr Denton will eventually receive a letter from Dr Thuraisingham, but JH had the Renal Transplant Co-ordinator’s, Ray Trevitt’s email address at the RLH which she gave to Sara: Sara undertook to email Ray to ask if they – being the Team at Derriford – could press on with arranging the appropriate investigations for JH.

2006 - August 5th - Saturday

Kathy rang JH to tell her that Tony Benn had rung up!  He was, apparently, most amenable – as he would be.  He had been unable to come to the Reunion having only received the letter on Friday (beforehand presumably) as he is resident in London.  Kathy suggested to JH that we invite Tony Benn out to have a meal with us but JH confesses that she feels a bit too socially timid to do this!  {JH subsequently sent a copy of Kathy’s letter to Estelle Radford – a longstanding family friend living in Maidenhead - as it was the latter who alerted JH to the snippet in Tony Benn’s Book.}
