2006 - November 9th - Thursday

JH received a phone call from the Surgery saying that one of her bone blood tests needed repeating:  This information alarmed JH {who was just packing to go to the Early Music Festival}, and the receptionist to whom JH was speaking could not identify exactly which result was abnormal; JH asked to speak to Dr Hateley on the phone – before JH went to catch her train in the afternoon.  However, after stopping to think, JH phoned the surgery back and explained, to a different receptionist, that JH would simply do as requested – make an appointment to have the bone tests repeated in a week.  {It occurred to JH that Dr Hateley would assume that JH knew all about the levels tested for, in view of JH’s having been a Nurse!}.  The ‘new’ receptionist told JH that her Colleague’s note pad bore the message about JH speaking to the Doctor, but JH said this was no longer necessary, as this receptionist told JH that the alkaline phosphatase level was abnormal, ie, high.  JH altered the appointment she had made with the Doctor (to view JH’s results) to have repeat bone blood tests done on Thursday 16th at 10.05am, and ‘moved’ the appointment to see Dr Hateley to Monday 20th at 9.00am.  Subsequently JH phoned the Renal Unit and spoke to Peter, one of the Transplant Team, to ask about the significance of alkaline phosphatase levels:  Peter explained (as Sara was not available) that the alkaline phosphatase level was abnormal if it was raised, but that JH need not be too concerned as his own level was usually high and that he was perfectly well!  JH also left a message on Jinny Jeffery’s Mobile, Jinny being a biochemist as well as a recorder player, asking Jinny to speak with JH at some point to explain all about alkaline phosphatase.

2006 - November 10th - Friday

JH received a CM message from Kathy - after JH’s return from Maidenhead - which Kathy had left at 9.16am: Kathy had hoped to catch JH before JH went up to Maidenhead, so that Kathy could arrange to meet JH for a cup of coffee in Greenwich on Sunday 12th – when JH was going to attend a Concert in the afternoon.  JH had also intended to contact Kathy but JH had been so preoccupied with phone calls, whilst trying to pack, that she had nearly missed the 4.05pm fast train to Reading, and only reached the platform in time because a member of staff at the station barrier carried her wheelie rucksack along the underground tunnel and popped it on the train just as the whistles were blowing!

2006 - November 11th - Saturday

JH told Elizabeth Pearce – a long-time friend in Maidenhead - about progress with the proposed  donation, and explained that she was anxious about delaying things in view of her high alkaline phosphatase to do with her ‘bone tests’; Elizabeth countered with the question as to whether JH was getting Vit D in cheese/dairy products in her diet.
