2007 - July 12th - Thursday

JH attended an appointment at the Renal Unit at 4.30pm.  JH had received an appointment letter in the nick of time – the post being disrupted due to industrial action at the Post Office.  JH went to the Renal Department at Derriford – travelling to the Hospital on the No 152 15:41 bus.  {She had time to pop along to the Neurosurgical Department to chat with her erstwhile colleagues; Judy was, very sadly, off sick for some time.  JH told Tracey, Jean, and Mr Whitfield, about her Personal Adventure.}  JH was welcomed back by Margaret, Lyn’s colleague, and Sara Stacey; both of them received a brief ‘report’ from JH about the latter’s convalescence.  {Lyn had a day off.}

JH was seen by Dr S Shrikant, Nephrology Registrar; there was some discussion between Dr S, the Receptionist, and the Clinic Nurse (neither of whom JH had seen in the Clinic before) with regards to JH really needing a 20-minute slot as she should be considered a ‘new’ patient when post-donation; JH produced a specimen of urine, and the Nurse took JH’s blood pressure and checked her weight (about 14st 12lb); as JH’s blood pressure was 150/84, Dr S started JH on Zanidip [lercanidipine], an antihypertensive, to protect JH’s remaining kidney; JH observed that the clock in the Department indicated that JH came out of the consulting room at 4.47pm, in other words, although Dr S was obviously pressed for time, he managed to foil all JH’s attempts to chatter-on, and ‘sorted JH out’ very professionally!  JH went to the Co-operative Pharmacy in Transit Way to get the Zanidip: unfortunately, she had to wait nearly an hour for a No 29 bus to take her back home – hence there is a heartfelt letter to Citybus on her ‘On the Buses’ File!

Kathy rang JH; Kathy is going home tomorrow, Friday 13th, at 4.00pm!  Kathy will return for FU in the Renal Outpatients Department on Monday 16th July, and regularly every 3 to 4 days thereafter.  JH told Kathy about JH’s fall.

2007 - July 13th - Friday

JH took her first 10mg-dose of Zanidip before breakfast.

JH rang Lyn about her (JH’s) appointment/s:  JH explained that Dr S had intimated that JH should have been given a 20-minute slot as a ‘new’ patient, which – of course – Lyn did not ‘realise’; Lyn did explain that Dr S had been left, by Dr Denton, to do the Clinic on his own which Dr S had been rather concerned about.  JH had pointed out that Lyn had actually sent JH an appointment for Thursday, 26th July as well, ie, 6/52 post-op – this was possibly because JH had mentioned that she was expecting to see the Surgeon 6/52 post-op; however, this appointment was cancelled when JH was given a 4/12 FU at Derriford Hospital.  [JH also told Lyn about Judy being ill.]

Kathy left a CM message in evening:  Kathy rang from the car when on the way to Lorraine’s for dinner {and Ralph was driving} – whilst JH was listening to a play about 7th of the 7th on her computer.  JH spoke to Mary Andrews on the phone in the morning as Mary was off out, with Mary H, and would not be able to phone in the evening as promised.
