2007 - July 5th - Thursday

JH had been comfortable enough to sleep on either side, instead of just laying recumbent, and so ‘rose up’ after laying on her right side for a spell – and without feeling collywobbly; JH’s pain was diminishing, and so - having already reduced the number of doses - she stopped taking the oromorph.

Mary rang JH to ask after the progress of the Convalescent.  Mary was of the opinion that JH should, perhaps, lay-off the fruit which, by its very nature, was acidic – and so likely to compound JH’s digestive difficulties, as would also the antibiotics; JH assured Mary that JH had already, the previous evening, learnt by her own experience, and would do as she advised!  Mary told JH that she had met Lynda Gedys, a mutual, previous colleague, who sent her best wishes to JH.  Estelle Radford rang up to enquire about JH’s welfare.  JH watched a bit of Wimbledon tennis but, as it was raining and windy all day – everywhere – not much tennis got played!

2007 - July 6th - Friday

Kathy and JH kept ‘missing’ each other with telecoms, but eventually, Kathy asked JH to phone the Ward to speak to the Consultant Nephrologist, Dr Paul Ashman, who had just done his round, to explain to him about her wound infection.  In any event, by the time JH spoke to someone at the Nurses’ Station at 12.45pm, Dr Ashman had of course left the Ward; furthermore, when JH spoke to his secretary later on, he was still not to be found.  JH did not succeed in having a conversation with Dr Ashman, but assumes that, as Kathy has MRSA on her skin, he might like to know whether JH had MRSA – but, in any event, JH did not have a wound swab taken when she saw Dr Donaldson (at Derriford Hospital); her wound was oozing less and less – even with an encouraging squeeze, and looked far less inflamed, after being on antibiotics for 3 days so far.

JH received another follow-up phone call – with regards to the newspaper article about JH’s Midwifery Training - from Anne Morgan, who is compiling an Archive about Midwifery Training for the Public Record Office which is located in Plymouth.
