2007 - March 29th - Thursday

JH sent an email to the Skinners suggesting that the transplant could be done in Plymouth: this would of course preclude the necessity for JH to have a conventional angiogram; however, JH explained that she was in no way wishing to persuade them and would leave them to make the decision.  They could, of course, have accommodation at Hippo Haven!  The Skinners emailed JH back the same day declining this offer – as to be expected; JH forwarded their reply to Sara.

2007 - March 30th - Friday

JH sent a reply to the Skinners thanking them for their prompt reply: JH explained that JH and KS must ‘resign ourselves’ to the fact that we would not be having our ops in the time frame of May to July – as mentioned by Ray.  Furthermore, JH explained that her sister, Ann, would not contemplate coming to Plymouth – if JH was up in hospital; therefore, JH had told Ann that she would ‘protect’ the week commencing 14th of May.  Kathy had also mentioned that Ralph needed to have his hernia repaired again and so JH suggested that there should be no delay in pushing this back smartish!

2007 - April 3rd - Tuesday

JH, unexpectedly, had a FU Pain Relief Unit appointment and so went to speak to Sara whilst up at Derriford:  Sara said that she had not had any replies from the Radiologists with regards to JH having an angiogram done privately.  JH was seen by Rachel Horn, Nurse Consultant, in the PRU: JH reported that she felt the use of a TENS machine for 6/12 had, perhaps, diminished JH’s discomfort.

JH received a Letter of Encouragement from Lyn Headon which undoubtedly reached the spot!  In the letter Lyn quotes Hippopotamus, a poem she found in a book shop in Bath when she was out for the day with ‘The Gang of Four’.  JH thanked Lyn for her letter, when she went down to the Renal Unit to see Sara.

2007 - April 4th - Wednesday

JH received an appointment for the 4th June 2007 to have an angiogram at the RLH which indicated to JH that Ray had got the message that JH could not come on 17th May.

2007 - April 5th - Thursday

JH rang the RLH and spoke to Tara Caswell, Senior Radiographer:  Tara said she only had Day Case beds on which the patients laid flat after the Procedure; furthermore the person who might have a list of accommodation was away on holidays [coming up to Easter].  JH said that she would not definitely confirm attendance at the appointment, as she was still trying to negotiate having the angiogram done at Derriford [but did not mention being prepared to pay].  JH also requested that her address be recorded completely in the Imaging Database, as the appointment letter had only ‘St Budeaux’ on the envelope and no ‘Plymouth’.  JH rang the Renal Unit to speak to Ray – who also holds an Accommodation List – but he was also away over Easter.
