2007 - October 21st - Saturday

JH phoned Kathy to return K’s CM message received the previous day.  Kathy told JH that she feels ‘as bad as before the Op’: she is particularly suffering from back and leg pain; furthermore, she keeps getting urinary tract infections {JH recollects that K had the stent removed from her ureter about 6/52 postoperatively.}  However, Kathy’s blood work with regards to HER kidney, is fine and K is still pleased to be able to eat anything.  JH assured K that she had no regrets whatsoever in given K a kidney; JH did not ask K the question as to whether K regretted having the transplant – as this would have been inappropriate.  Anyway, JH is sure that Kathy does not have any regrets, but JH is sad to ‘observe’ Kathy’s long recovery period.  Nevertheless, Kathy was very eager to meet JH in Greenwich when the latter plans to come up to visit the Early Music Festival on the second WE in November.

As well as telling Sara about meeting Jenny A, the young lady whose mum had just given dad a kidney, JH also told Sara about Kathy’s rather slow postoperative progress – in an email sent at 9 mins past midnight.  On the following day, Monday 22nd October, JH went to see Lyn Headon in the Renal Unit, as Lyn was feeling ‘under the weather’: whilst there JH met Sara and recapped on her email.

2007 - October 25th - Thursday

JH emailed Barbara Aly at Scout Enterprises {Company which ‘administrates’ Public and Patient Involvement Forums {PPIFs}} about JH’S concerns about Patientline, and about the recent reports (again) in the media that the Government wish to alter the opting-in scheme for potential donors, to an opting out scheme for the whole population.  JH notes that PPIFs will cease to exist in March 2008 when another scheme is to be put afoot – possibly – for communication between all users of the NHS and the providers of the Service.  The providers can, of course, be the users as well!.  [Addendum: Exchange of emails were sent again to Barbara on 270208, as Barbara had no recollection of receiving the emails previously, possibly due to JH’s troubles with her computer.]

2007 - November 1st - Thursday

JH went for her second session of physiotherapy with Alison Morton.  JH expressed her ineptitude at following Alison’s instructions with regard to doing exercises!  JH received more massage and ultrasound treatment.  On the whole, JH’s muscles were less screwed up; furthermore, JH was less screwed-up herself about the troubles JH was having with her left, dominant, arm!  Alison advised JH to cancel the next appointment arranged for Thursday 15th November as she ‘didn’t want to take JH’s money “unnecessarily”’; however, as JH was still taking the second course of medication prescribed to her by her GP, she said she would not cancel the appointment there and then.

2007 - November 5th - Monday

JH dropped her repeat prescription request for her Zanidip in at the GP’s Surgery because she suddenly realised that she might run out over the next weekend when she would be away; this was a ‘new experience’ for JH who usually posts her requests to the Surgery – enclosing an SAE; therefore, JH had to be told by the Receptionist that repeat prescriptions could only be collected 48 hours later and not the same afternoon!  However, JH did read the notice stating that aggravation from patients demanding immediate repeat prescriptions would not be tolerated: JH collected hers on Wednesday.

JH had almost completed her second course of an NSAID, and antihistamine, for treatment of her whiplash injury: although JH was much less apprehensive that he neck and shoulder pain would recur on stopping taking her medication, she did take some supplies of ibuprofen with her - during her trip away over next weekend.  Following JH’s return home on Monday 12th November, JH stopped taking anything, and JH no longer experienced pain from her whiplash injury– thank goodness!
