2007 - September 21st - Friday

JH sent off scanned-in copy of address list to Kathy with Robert, the computer man’s help!  {However, this email was dispatched again by JH on 4th October, as Robert had spelt the Skinners’ email address incorrectly.}  JH received a gift package from Ralph containing two hippos, and a die-cast model Morris Traveller!  The small Beanie Bag Hippo (beans only in his bum!) is by the fire in the living room and Plastic Purple Hippo was put with his mates in the Bathroom; the royal blue (not aqua, ie, nearer turquoise) MT was placed with JH’s die-cast hippos.

2007 - September 23rd - Sunday

JH had phone conversation with Catherine Hipsey, wife of Stephen Hipsey who is Kathy’s nephew – being Bill’s son.  Stephen is in the Navy but, at the moment (and for some time past), is resident in Tavistock.  Stephen and his family have been around and about the Plymouth area for some years but JH and Stephen’s family have never managed to meet each other – although JH does have a vague recollection of having a telephone conversation some years ago.  In any event, in view of JH’s donation to Kathy, Stephen’s family persevered in tracking down JH.  Jenny, their daughter, who is Haven [? The same as Harbour] Master at Yacht Haven in Plymouth (JH supposes that having a dad in the Navy would predispose to doing something to do with boats!), had actually phoned JH, when she was out on 19th September, to suggest meeting in Plymouth over a cup of coffee, but JH accidentally deleted the CM message before noting the phone number.

And so, JH looked up the family’s home phone number in the local Directory and rang up.  Catherine answered the phone: Jenny is 23, and has a brother, Chris – commonly known as Buster – aged 21, who is busy with ?university; Jenny house shares in Sussex Street; at the moment Jenny was sailing about somewhere in foreign climes!  Catherine said that the whole family had been up to East Anglia recently and attended Ralph’s birthday Party.  Action: JH to thank Ralph for package, and send a late birthday card!

2007 - September 27th - Thursday

Actually, JH did not know the date of Ralph’s birthday (and it is not written on the Family Tree) although she did recollect mention of a party coming up: in any event, JH wrote a message on a belated birthday card to Ralph explaining that the crash of her computer had thoroughly muddled JH’s filing systems; JH thanked Ralph for the package’s contents, and for the photos of the Good Samaritan which had been received – presumably taken by Ralph.  Also, JH had received a number of newspaper cuttings from Kathy recently, two about kidneys, and one about a lady studying her Family Tree to assess her risk of getting breast cancer.  (On the back of one of the cuttings was also - as a bonus - a picture of a gentleman blowing a mediaeval horn at a Mediaeval Fair at a local school.)
